The integration exam — cost, registration and results
2 min read
You pay and register per part, not for the exam as a whole. That matters more than it sounds: it determines what you pay if you fail one part, and it lets you spread the parts out.
What it costs
Each part has its own price, so registering for all five means paying five times.
If the scheme for people with refugee status applies to you, the first two attempts of each exam are free. That is per exam — not two free attempts in total.
Amounts change. Always check the current figure on the official page about costs before you register.
Registering
You register online and choose your location and date at the same time. In the European part of the Netherlands exams run all year round, and slots generally open one to two months in advance.
Practical points:
- Register early. Popular locations and times fill up fast. If you want a particular day or somewhere close to home, look as soon as slots open.
- Spread the parts if you are unsure. Five exams in one week is heavy, and there is no advantage to doing everything at once.
- Bring valid photo ID. Without it you cannot take part — the most pointless way to lose an exam.
- No dictionary for the A2 parts.
Your result
The result does not come straight after the exam. It arrives within a few weeks — allow up to eight — by letter, and you can view it online in your personal file.
That wait is normal, even for parts taken on a computer. So do not plan your next part around a result you do not have yet.
If you fail one part
You retake only that part. Parts you have passed stay passed; you register again for the outstanding one and pay only for it.
Before you re-register, work out what went wrong. Was it the time, the vocabulary, or the format? A practice exam of the same part will tell you faster than going through everything again.
